Bee Keeping

Bee Keeping

The history of bee keeping is long. It is known as one of the oldest forms of food production, with some of the earliest documentation of bee keeping found around 13,000 BC.

Bees themselves have been around for some 30 million years old.

From the 1980’s onwards there has been a decline in bee numbers due to parasites, mites and small hive beetles as well as the over use of chemical sprays in agriculture around the World.

Bees are an essential part of the food chain being important pollinators of plants. Therefore it’s vital that more people get an insight into these fascinating creatures so there is support measures to protect their continued survival.

Learn about this fascinating activity at HESFES, see live bees and take part in instructive workshops on natural bee keeping and top bar hives.
