Very good HES FES, Nice new site, Thank you for a Brilliant week! Marshall
Hello Andy and Hesfes Crew,
We just wanted to say what a fantastic time we had at Hesfes 2009. It was our first time and we didn't know what to expect - but it all exceeded our expectations!
The workshops were amazing with so much variety. All the volunteers of these were great with the kids and adults alike and were very enthusiastic.
Our son, aged 8, made a wooden spoon from splitting a log, did Japanese calligraphy, silk printed a t. shirt, did basket weaving and on the nature walk he learnt to track animals and what plants were edible (we also learnt loads too!) Where else would you get to do all that and more in a week - fantastic!!!
We took our canoe and enjoyed the river, it was such a beautiful setting for Hesfes. Yes, it was back to basics this year, but it all added to the charm - we always seemed to find the hot showers and I mean HOT! …...
The children's cabarets were so lovely and brought tears to my eyes, you are a born compere Andy. The final show was brilliant too. What's amazing is all the talent out there.
For us, the magic was being with like minded people and relaxing. The children had a ball just being children, running around together and having fun.
So we would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you, for all that you do in putting together an amazing event, we will surely be coming again :-)
Best wishes
Tracy, Richard and Matthew
Dear Andy, (Bo, Alfie, Bev, Cliff, Fin, Gemma, Jan, Jane, Keira, Kevin, Mark, Pete, Ruben, Steve) - a big and wonderful thanks to you . . .
We had another great time at HESFES…
The location was absolutely brilliant: very easy to get to, the camp field really fantastic and the river a great playground.
The crew does such a remarkable job and we absolutely love HESFES and you Andy. Thanks.
Love, Cate, Fred, Arthur & Calypso
The best one yet!
Thanks to the crew for all the hard work.
John , Katy & Family
Just to thankyou for a fantastic HESFES 2009! We didn't have a chance to say goodbye because we had to rush off in the morning, With lots of love Bill Louise and Sophia xxx
Hello Andy
Firstly I would like to thank you and all the other 'behind the scene' people who must have put in such a lot to produce the full program at HESFES. I am sure there were times when it was difficult but from what I saw you handled everything very well. This is our first HESFES and we enjoyed it very much and gained a lot from it. So a big thank you.
Best regards Maureen Knecht
Hi Andy Can I just say thank you for a most fantastic week at Hesfes. Even the loos, which must have been a nightmare for you, couldn’t spoil it, it still got two 8/10s and two 9/10s from the four of us. The massive effort that you put into it is very much appreciated.
The children’s cabaret just blew me away, the peaceful confidence of many and the determined bravery of some in the most supportive and enthusiastic environment you could imagine was amazing, I have never experienced anything like it and what it contributes to the kids self esteem and confidence cannot be measured.

Andy, thank you so much - this was our 5th HesFes and as each year goes on I appreciate the work you put in more. Lovely choice of venue and well worth the restrictions in facilities.
I was there when you were talking to the tank owner with a group of teenagers and I thought you (and he) handled the situation brilliantly....
I had wanted to buy you a drink or something to say thank you for all you do, but as I was looking after my 5 kids all the time, the only thing I drank all week was water!! But anyway.... thank you. I do hope that you get an organiser's fee of some sort for all this, because it's hard to see how it could be manageable otherwise.
Best wishes, Angela Horn
Dear Andy and the HESFES crew In return we would like to thank you for all the effort you put into organising this huge event. It must have been so much work and worry ... we really appreciate it! And we had so many nice experiences, got to know interesting people and learned a lot.
Thanks again Kind regards
Corinna, Falk and Christoph Spellerberg
HESFES CREW - WE LOVE YOU!! THANK YOU FOR BEING AND ALLOWING US TO BE. STILL HIGH ON IT ALL (counting down the days until next year's HesFes! We are in love with life, liberty and lusciousness. Afifah and Chloe (Hamilton/Watson)
A massive thanks to you Andy - it was great. I really loved the new site - beautiful, calm, private and best of all, beautifully spacious (which is why it was so great for me - I slept much better). I was personally fine with the loos - I know some people didn't like them but I've seen festival loos 10x worse and thought your team kept them in pretty good shape actually.
It occurred to me whilst wandering across the central area whether it might be nice to have a "market day"? I know you like to keep it non-commercial but I was just thinking of the kids with their sweets and badges, people selling their old books, the reflexologists setting up stall - etc etc. Just thought it might be a nice to have on one day for half a day.
I would also like to say that I was very impressed and pleased with how you handled the "flaming loo"/ Jack Daniels incidents - very measured and reasonable, and a fine model for my young son of how sensible people deal with difficult situations. The teenagers were fab about it all too - as we would expect from our lovely young people.
Best wishes, Kate Dale
Thanks to YOU the HESFES crew, we all had a fantastic time and just hated coming home to our ‘normal’ lives! Can’t wait to see you again next year. Louisa Southey & Oxfordshire families
A massive thanks to you too Andy, not only for putting on the best HESFES ever (in our opinion), but for dealing with the unmentionable so well.
When you gave that speech on Monday, you were the hero of the hour. You could give Obama lessons. I even started litter picking afterwards, and will be investing in my own litter grabbing stick for next year.
Anyway, we liked that part of Kent so much there we're going back this Saturday. Nothing to do with the fact that the whole of East Peckham is having a garage sale of course.
We hope you'll have a HESFES next year, we hope that you'll have it there again and we hope you'll let us all come even when Bobby's not home educated any more. Which will be next year cos he's off to college in September. Please give our thanks and love to all the crew. love Jane, Shaun and Bobby
Dear Andy and crew,
Just wanted to write and say a huge Thank You for yet another brilliant HESFES. Not only have you found a beautiful campsite for us but it seemed there were more workshops than ever and all our family and friends just had a fantastic time.
It must have been harder than ever this year, what with the 'issues' early on in the week etc but your handling of the situation was fantastic and, if possible, made us appreciate how important HESFES is to us even more than we already do.
So, here's to 2010! We know it will be fantastic and you all have our utmost thanks and support for giving us and our kids this amazing experience every year. A brief thought of no more HESFES crossed my mind this year and that would just be too grim to imagine so, I'm sure I am talking for many when I say please remember how much we all appreciate you, even if we don't say it enough.
I hope you are all enjoying a well earned rest and can't wait to hear about the plans for next year.
Many, many good wishes, From Loretta, Clinton, Joel, Callum, Maddie and Sam Lock. (Eastbourne / Sussex group)
Dear Andy,
A massive thanks to you and the HESFES crew. We had a lovely time and really enjoyed the workshops, music, socializing . . .
Love, Rosemary, Garett, and Claire
Dear Andy, I wanted to say thank you for a wonderful HESFES 2009 from all of us from Forest Row.
Although I organised our little group, sadly I was unable to come in the end as I was beset by swine flu; however, my three children came (and the boys performed in the drama at the end of the week) and a great time was had by all the other families too.
So thank you, for all your efforts, and please please please can it be in the same venue next year? Thanks, Kim
Just wanted to say that we really enjoyed Hes Fes 2009 and want to thank the crew for all their months of hard work to make it happen.
…………..The Portaloos were much better than the toilet blocks.
I just wanted to let you know that we really liked the site and hope we can go back there again. We liked the wide open space, accessibility by rail and road, the river, the trees, the local walks, the fact there was no arcade or pub or cheap sweets - it was pretty much perfect.
The workshops were varied and catered for all ages - there was plenty to do. The food and cafe tents were great and reasonably priced too.
Many thanks and hope you have recovered by now. Best wishes, Judi and Sebastian
And Thank you all too Andy. We Had a ball. The best yet. Looking forward to next year already!
Regards Julie

Hi there Our son came to Hesfes this year for the first time but unfortunately we couldn't make it; we just wondered if you can add us to your circular for when details of next years event takes place so we can plan ahead.
He had a great time but had to leave on Wednesday and was gutted!! - He'd wanted to make his own cutlery!
Thank you for organising what is a great event - from what Theo told me - and we look forward to hearing from you Cheers Nik and Steve Yikes
Hi Andy, We're really missing hesfes - didn't make it this year or last cos of other committments. Will there be a hesfes 2 by any chance? Best wishes to you all Allen, Gail, Georgina & Alex from Kidderminster Hope you remember us!
Just wanted to let you know what a great week we had. Initially when I discovered where the new venue was, I was full of concerns and decided not to go but then changed my mind and I'm sooooooooo glad I did!! The site was great and even though we would have killed for a proper flush toilet and hot water sinks, we made the best of it and had a fab time! Thank you all so much for all the efforts you made to make this another great HESFES :) What could possibly go wrong? LOL!!
luv Nina/Neenaw
