LIVE MUSIC

Some of the live music so far confirmed at HESFES 2008.

Bongo

Bongo aka Steven Payne will as usual be very much in evidence at HESFES.

Playing his own compositions with his band The Super Lucky Cats as well as jamming through the week finally playing us out in style on the last night with the awesome Sunny Spells covers band.

His boundless energy also sees him leading the music workshops throughout the week, which will culminate in dozens of younger musicians and singers taking the stage as the final act of “The End of the Week Show”.

A true spectacle which never fails to uplift and move.

Massive thanks to him and all the other musicians who will be devoting their time and lending their equipment to make this happen.

Bongo is also a highly regarded music tutor in and around the London area.

Boy David VIII

Boy David aka Dave Cawley aka get the swine!

A regular at HESFES for many, many, many, many, many years. It’s the medication.

Soaring vocals, astounding guitar playing and trousers unfeasibly tight for a man of his advanced years. Headlining Sunday night.

Brechamusic

Making their HESFES début Brecha Music are truly newsworthy in the quality of their sound.

Band members hail from countries as divers as Argentina, Bulgaria and Cuba and this is reflected in the breath of sounds emanating from these outstanding musicians.

Do not miss their latin-fused groove, which is impossible not to dance to.

Highly recommended!

The Fish Brothers

All the way from the mysterious and soon to submerged Eastern European country of Brighton.

The Fish Brothers play medieval punk rock fused with wired up music hall brawling ballads with more than a hint of Nigerian funk jazz crossover.

Caused critical outrage at their HESFES debut during HESFES 2007 PART 2. In fact so much so that we’re still trying to get the stains out of the stage.

Expect high octane music, high junks and high kicks (If Martin Fish manages to click his hip back in that is).

Headling on Saturday night. You have to hear/see to believe.

Fishing For Eyelashes

This band made one of their first performances in front of an audience, at HESFES a few years back.

They have continued to improve going from strength to strength until they now reach the stage where they are nothing less than stunning.

A truly impressive and uplifting sound from a hugely exciting band. Lead by the powerhouse that is vocalist Hettie.

Heroin Hospital

Just when you thought it was safe to back into the main marquee this bunch take the stage. Ow ‘eck!

This is another band that started their live performances at HESFES. What have we done? Only joking, they give it they’re all and as a result are never a boring stage presence.

Get ready for their 2008 set. Apparently even the wallpaper rips up and moves.

Jonathan Spurling

Jonathan is a HESFES regular of long standing. Singing a wide range of original and covers.

As well as performing solo he will also be playing alongside a number of other musicians.

The man also leads the very popular drumming workshops, which always lead to a well-received slot on the “End of the Week Show”.

My Pet Junkie

My pet Junkie are Stuart O'Connor (vocals and guitar), Leon Camfield (drums and vocals), Julia Bell (bass and vocals).

Expect a storming performance as well as being deeply involved with the music workshops that culminate in the “End of the Week Show”.

Unique music performed with a delivery tighter than a gnat’s chuff.

Sir Parking Badly

DJ, performance artist and river widener, Sir Parking will be providing a hugely groovy mix this year.

Last year saw a chocolate and raisin cake mix followed by a porous cement mix.

He is highly committed to his music (Well he has been committed in the past).

Get ready for a rather unusual night.

Morriaty: “Good heavens Sir Parking! Your dressed as a Lady”.
Sir Parking Badly: “How dare you! I’m no lady”.

From The Case of the Loose Corset.

Somebody's Mind

They're from Reading and they're kicking up this refined raw energetic psychedelic storm of rock, they talk of a sound that they call The British Voodoo....

Weird wired very English early Pink Floyd lost in the depths of the UFO club fighting off Johnny Rotten in a time machine in 1967 and coming out like Hawkwind or Mood Six ....

Reverb paranoia and interstellar overdrives.... sounds like a long lost English psychedelic Hammer Horror

Spider

DJ extraordinaire Spider has played before audiences as diverse as the clientele of the Dog and Turd in the Isle of Man, the Russian Parliament and the entire population of Croyden (However, this was due to a knob stuck at full volume).

Has also performed in Brixton prison. They later released him on humanitarian grounds. After the prisoners and wardens all complained.

Well versed in musicography, technical ability, tequila drinking and wellie juggling. He will be playing tunes that will make it impossible not to dance to. Or possibly not to laugh at.

S&T

A DJ duo hailing from deepest darkest Bedford. Well know in rude circles as purveyors of alternative pop sounds.

Providing the music for the childrens’ Disco and a whole lot more.
Expect dancing, waving and a huge mess and that’s just the journey to get to Mersea Island.

Stuart O'Connor

Stuart is another musician giving his time to the music workshops at HESFES 2008. He will be performing his highly sophisticated solo music as well as performing with My Pet Junkie.

Last year saw him play at HESFES 2007 in the summer as well
as playing a very successful two month tour of New Zealand and Australia with an incredible 52 shows in total.

After that he supported Ocean Colour Scene and toured the UK once more which included his awesome set at HESFES 2007 Part 2 in September.

Sunny Spells

A powerhouse of a covers band. Playing something for everyone with songs and styles ranging from classic rock to Ska to Gypsy and back again.

The very last band of the week playing HESFES 2008 out in style.

Get ready for a true blast of a last night with music to dance, mosh, move or whatever it is you want to do.

Of course there may still be a bit of a jam afterwards. Well if last year is anything to go by there will.

We think it ended sometime on the Friday afternoon but we can’t be too sure...

The super Lucky Cats

Lead by the irrepressible Bongo the Super Lucky Cats wowed the HESFESers at both of our festivals last year.

This is one band that really makes you want to dance.

Ska beat orientated but with cheeky vocals and unexpected melodic directions.

Don’t miss!

Tessa

As well as assisting in the music workshops Tessa will once again be holding drama workshops for little ones.

All this as well as performing some of her own songs onstage in the main marquee.
